The C.W. Pack journey in photography began in 1969 when he was drafted into the Army and sent to photography school at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. From 1970 - 1972, he served as a photographer stationed at Fort Shafter with the signal corps. Under the guidance of several local mentors, veterans of both the military and photography, basic skills were developed that would serve well in the years to come.
1972 saw the start of four years at the Rochester Institute of Technology that culminated in a degree in photo illustration. While at R.I.T., C.W. Pack also played football, which eventually led to the start of C.W. Pack Sports as a photo business. Conceived as a senior project, the objective was to combine the elements of sports and photo illustration, to offer a product to college athletes that was both personal and professional.
Although college sports have always been the foundation, our clients have been as diverse as hydroplane racing, downhill skiing, and professional horse jumping. In the early 80's, C.W. Pack also covered professional football and college basketball for NBC in the northeast corridor. His photos were published in the national papers in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago.
1984 marked a turning point for C.W. Pack Sports. A Sports Illustrated reporter asked to do an article on the company and what it meant to college athletes. The resulting exposure elevated the business focus to a more national level.
Finally in 1985, the journey comes full circle with a move back to Hawaii. Here, we have established a relationship with the local sports community, while still maintaining our original mainland base.
